NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation

Short Description:

Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training — is the NRA’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers.

More Details:

NRA FIRST Steps Rifle is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific rifle action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific rifle action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular rifle model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

Bring to class: Rifle you intend to use;  20 rounds of ammunition;  hearing and eye protection.

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

Short Description:

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

More Details:

This course is at least 8 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

Bring to class: Rifle you intend to use;  100 rounds of ammunition, (you won’t need them all);  hearing and eye protection. This course is also a prerequisite for the NRA Certified Rifle Instructor Course, should you later decide to become an Instructor.

NRA Instructor Rifle Shooting Course

Short Description:

This 16-hour course teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, promoting and teaching NRA’s Basic Rifle Shooting course.

Prerequisite: Possession of basic firearm safety and shooting skills is a perquisite for certification as an NRA instructor. Prior to the instructor training, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.

Description: Course is presented in two parts: basic instructor training, and discipline specific instructor training. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Rifle Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet and NRA Basic Rifle Shooting course student packet.

Bring to class: Rifle you intend to use;  200 rounds of ammunition, (you won’t need them all);  hearing and eye protection.

• Course price:  $300.00 Note: This price includes the BIT class discussed below, and is conducted free of charge for instructor candidates.

The BIT (Basic Instructor Training) course is a prerequisite for the Instructor Course.

The NRA requires FOUR students minimum to certify this class. I keep students on a waiting list and will contact all participants when I have the required FOUR students.
